Supporting our College Athletes

Bens OBU Victoria is proud to continue to support the St Benedict's College high performing Athletics Team. 

On December 13th, our President, Aravinda Canekeratne, was in Colombo to personally hand over a donation of 25kg of Whey Protein supplements in time for the teams upcoming 2026 season. The Benedictines in Victoria also donated around 35kg of Whey Protein supplements for the 2025 season that saw the College Athletes perform at their best.

It was great to see a global effort, with presidents from the UK and UAE OBUs also present to show their support. A big thank you as well to the UAE OBU for donating additional recovery supplements! 

The event was attended by Rev Bro Pravin Vaz, Felix Dias, UK OBU President Tony James and UAE OBU President Virosh Perera.

Complementing our donation, UAE OBU donated recovery supplements for the athletes.

Recap of College Athletics in 2025

The long and gruelling schools athletics season concluded in November 2025 with the 54th Ritzbury Sir John Tarbat Junior Athletic Championship at Embilipitiya.

Schools Athletics being highly competitive has seen a number records being broken this year. St.Benedict's Team gave their best , coming on top or among the top in every meet they participated.

Their achievements in 2025 are as follows.

• Colombo Zonal - Champions

• Western Province - Champions

• Senior Tarbat Meet - Runners Up

• Junior Tarbat Meet - Third

• Under 12 Championship - Runners Up

• Relay Carnival - Champions

This is an improvement over the previous year .The only school, which has a comparable, maybe a tad better performance is Maris Stella College, Negombo.

Our admirable coaching /support staff worked tirelessly and our well disciplined athletes responded equally well. Some outstanding performances were recorded by the very young Under 12 and Under 14 athletes .Our system of building a strong team , mainly with children coming from our Primary School is paying off. There are many good athletes seeking admission to SBC but only a limited number could be taken .

All credit should go to the incomparable Head Coach Nuwan Abeywickrema and his team , School Management and Old Benedictines from Sri Lanka and around the world for their wonderful support.
